The semi-cold hardy Mimosa tenuiflora (= M. hostilis) is thought to be native to the dry caatingas of northeastern Brazil but has also been reported from southern Mexico, Central America and Venezuela. The fast growing, bushy and sparsely spiny treelet can reach 8m and bears loose cylindrical spikes of fragrant white flowers. Grows best in semi-tropical climates at altitudes of up to 1000m, easy to cultivate, likes full sun exposure and well drained soil!
